“Gaucho sur fond orange”, by Miguel Ángel Pareja, is the chromatic source of this work. A member of the so-called Grupo de los Ocho (Group of Eight), Pareja developed a solid theory of color based on his own painting activity; an unwritten theory built one brushstroke at a time. He was a disciple of French painter Roger Bissiére, and under his teaching, as Pareja has said, he learned to solve the chromatic aspects “based on the juxtaposition of tints and shades on the canvas”. The rationalization of color has been a central theme of his teaching work at the National School of Fine Arts, of which he was a director between 1964 and 1972.
