By the end of 2009, President Tabaré Vázquez signed a resolution by which several pictorial works that had been housed in the Libertad building would be returned to their original museums. La canción del silencio (The Song of Silence), by Ernesto Laroche, thus returned to its old home, the Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales, of which its author was the director between 1928 and 1940. Croma XII is the only case of the series in which the painting being cited is integrated in the new work, a double appropriation: the painting within the painting, the work quoting itself.
