Two identical paintings, formed by rectangles of primary colors on an earthen background, hang on the wall of the main hall of the museum. They were commissioned to a professional forger based on the painting “Formas Abstractas” (Abstract Forms), by Joaquín Torres García, which was part of the recent monographic exhibition The Arcadian Modern at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. By exhibiting these paintings as authentic, the emblematic nature of museums is questioned as spaces that traditionally only house authored works in their collections.
