Tratteggio (or rigatino) is a method of chromatic reintegration used to fill in the absences or "gaps" of a damaged painting. As its name indicates—in striped Italian—fine vertical and parallel lines of pure colors are applied that cannot be distinguished from a distance, but up close allows us to identify the restored areas. Using the tratteggio technique, the restorer Mechtild Endhart covers the entire surface of the painting with the five basic colors that make up the aforementioned painting (Abstract Forms, by Joaquín Torres García), by superimposing layers.
